Erie County Community College’s (EC3) Welding Faculty, Luke Hummer, was recently recognized by American Welding Society’s (AWS) District 10.  Hummer’s contributions to the welding industry as well as the American Welding Society earned him the Private Sector Instructor Section Award

“It’s always an honor to be recognized for the work you’re doing,” said Hummer.  “I am proud of what we have accomplished at EC3 in a short amount of time.   It is nice that people have taken notice.” The AWS Board of Directors established this award as a way to honor educators in the welding community teaching in private facilities.  Awardees have advanced the knowledge of welding to their students through apprenticeship programs, internal corporate training programs, and similar nonpublic educational activities.  “Luke continues to be a bright light for our welding program” says Rebecca Walker, Dean of Career and Technical Education. “He continues to excel professionally, so we are excited to see his hard work pay off.”

EC3’s Welding program opened in the fall of 2021 and is responsible for nine of the twenty-eight students who graduated in June of 2023.  The program enrolls new students each fall offering both afternoon and evening sections.  For more information about the program contact information@ec3pa.org or call 814.413.7000.
